Overview:

This qualification provides a general introduction to the agriculture industry. It outlines the skills and knowledge required for general jobs in rural and regional Australia. It could lead to further study or employment in agriculture or other rural and regional sectors. With this qualification you may be able to carry out job roles such as:

  • Assistant animal attendant/stockperson

  • Assistant farm or station hand, Assistant farm or station worker

  • Assistant farm or station labourer.

You will learn:

  • basic skills in your interest area of farming. These might include dairy, beef, wool, sheep, cropping or mixed farming
  • how a farm operates, how to stay safe and healthy in the workplace
  • the skills employers value in young workers.

In typical lessons you might:

  • learn how to use farming equipment
  • learn how to prepare and exhibit an animal for an agricultural show
  • visit a farm, take part in an agricultural show.

This course is delivered by Seafood and Maritime Training Inc, a nationally Registered Training Organisation (RTO 7074)

In this VET course students will cover a range of skills and knowledge relevant to working in the aquaculture industry. Learning opportunities will include; farming, hatcheries and nurseries, live post-harvest holding and processing, maintaining structures and machinery and sustainability.

Overview:

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for a range of entry-level job roles in the horticultural industry.  Job roles may include:

  • Turf management, Fruit and vegetable growing
  • Landscaping, Retail and wholesale plant supply
  • Garden design.

With this qualification, you will be able to carry out routine tasks under supervision.

You will learn:

  • skills and knowledge needed to work in horticulture; this might include a retail or wholesale nursery, landscaping, parks and gardens, arboriculture, or general horticulture
  • how to care for the environment and work sustainably
  • how to stay safe and healthy in the workplace
  • the skills employers value in young workers.

In typical lessons you might:

  • be shown how to recognise certain plants
  • design or create a garden
  • learn how to grow plants
  • learn about the nutritional and economic use of plants
  • find out how to treat plant pests and diseases.
