In English Inquiry Level 1 students develop their basic English skills by making purposeful connections with other relevant disciplines. They undertake a series of inquiries which explore attitudes, values, themes and issues through texts from a range of disciplines.

The course is designed to consolidate the development of their speaking, listening, reading, writing, viewing and representing skills through an approach that is engaging, relevant and meaningful.

Students are guided to make connections with aspects of English and other disciplines to respond to and create imaginative, informative and persuasive texts that evidence their understandings.

Students will receive support to develop their reading and writing skills. Students will also learn to write a range of texts, predominately those appropriate in the workplace, focussing on texts that are straightforward and used in everyday situations.

English Foundations focuses on developing students' analytical, creative and critical thinking and communication skills in all language modes.

It encourages students to engage with texts from their contemporary world and with texts from Australian and other cultures.

English Inquiry Level 2 is designed for learners who wish to consolidate and develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of English, by making purposeful connections with transdisciplinary texts from English as the primary discipline and a range of other disciplines.

The course offers students opportunities for agency, and to enjoy language and be empowered as competent, confident and engaged users of English for a variety of purposes through inquiry-based learning.

English Studio 2 is suited to learners who enjoy writing and wish to discover or develop skills and techniques to create compelling stories and authentic content for a range of publications.

Learners will have opportunities to experience writing in different forms for specific purposes, audiences and contexts. These include writing for young markets, script and screen writing and journalistic and persuasive writing.

English Inquiry 3 English Inquiry 3 focuses on the investigation of ideas and issues in texts from contemporary culture. It is designed for learners who would like to broaden and deepen their understanding and application of English.

Learners will explore the way argument works in texts; investigating social, national and global issues; responding to a range of transdisciplinary texts; creating texts for different purposes, contexts and audiences; and investigating identity or sustainability through the development and presentation of an externally assessed independent inquiry.

They reflect on qualities of literary texts, appreciate the power of language and inquire into the relationships between personal preference and texts, authors, audiences and contexts as they explore ideas, concepts, attitudes and values.

English Studio 3 is a course focusing on the business and the art of writing which can prepare students for a career in the creative writing industry or tertiary English pathway.

This course is suitable for those students who wish to pursue their writing passion and explore their own distinctive talents. Learners will craft and promote their own original, innovative works to establish a distinctive personal style and voice.

The course will explore the art of storytelling, emerging forms of creative nonfiction and experiment with genre tropes and conventions.
